Digitization of business processes in the shipping industry
Lloyd’s Register of Ships has designed a tool called ‘The Benchmark’, which is essentially a platform for evaluating the Digital Maturity Index (DMI). It enables shipping companies to self-assess their digital readiness, compare themselves with industry peers, and identify potential areas for investment in technology and skills. The Benchmark report generated from the model serves as a starting point for understanding where the organization is positioned within the spectrum of digital transformation.
The tool is based on real digital use cases (close to 50 scenarios) and tested in a pilot phase with five leading shipping companies that thoroughly checked digital maturity in all aspects of their business, from digital infrastructure to cultural integration. In line with the resulting DMI (Digital Maturity Index), Lloyd’s Register can provide clients with advisory services to advance digital transformation, to help companies overcome the challenges of maritime digitization.
The mentioned “The Benchmark” is a unique tool in the shipping industry, with which it is possible to create an adequate strategy for the implementation of digital culture, skills, training and data standardization. It can be downloaded free from the Lloyd’s Register website.
